About Skin Cancer

There are 3 main types of skin cancer, Basal Cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma (Non Malignant Melanoma) and Melanoma. Basal Cell and Squamous Cell are the most common forms of skin cancer. Malignant Melanoma is less common but is the most deadly form of skin cancer accounting for over 75% of UK skin cancer related deaths. Over 2,000 people in the UK die from Malignant Melanoma each year with many deaths preventable through early diagnosis and treatment. If skin cancer is identified early it is treatable and highly curable. Moletest provide a quick and discreet screening service to check skin moles for the signs of skin cancer. Test Your Mole Now

Caroline Cerny, SunSmart manager at Cancer Research UK, said:

"A change in the culture of tanning including the explosion of cheap package holidays and the introduction of sunbeds in the seventies means we're now seeing alarming rates of melanoma for an entire age group. "Today the problem threatens to get worse as teenagers continue to crave a tan on the beach and top it up cheaply on sunbeds. "Already skin cancer is predicted to become the fourth most common cancer for men and for women in the UK by 2024." She added that melanoma is largely preventable through avoiding getting burnt in the sun.

Malignant Melanoma

If Malignant Melanoma is not detected until it as at an advanced stage the risk of the cancer spreading increases but if it is identified and treated the chances of a full recovery are high. That is why, to help reduce the risk of cancer, it is so important to regularly check the skin for any changes in moles. If you are worried about a mole and want to find out whether it could be Malignant Melanoma get it checked without delay.

Moles should be checked for skin cancer if they:

  • Change in their appearance
  • The Mole is itchy
  • The Mole is bleeding

Remember: Early diagnosis of skin cancer is imperative. So, if you are worried about a suspicious mole, why wait until you can see your doctor when you could get peace of mind right now?! Test Your Mole Now

Who gets skin cancer?

“People of all colours and races get skin cancer. Those with light skin who sunburn easily have a higher risk. Risk factors include: sunburns, family history of skin cancer, exposure to x-rays, weakened immune system, scarring caused by a disease or burn, and exposure to cancer-causing compounds such as arsenic. Using indoor tanning devices such as tanning beds and sunlamps also increases the risk of developing skin cancer. Of all the cancers that humans can get, skin cancer is the most common. In the United States, skin cancer is increasing in all races.” American Academy of Dermatology

Early Skin Cancer Diagnosis

Doctors despair because patients wait far too long before seeking advice about skin cancer moles. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can lead to a simple cure. Delay can be fatal and the reason it is common with this type of cancer is because the primary lesions although irritating or unsightly don't generally cause much trouble, i.e. it seems ignorable. So, don't take the chance. If you are even slightly concerned act now - our mole screening service can help.

Remember: Spotting the signs of skin cancer is imperative as early diagnosis and treatment cure rates are high. The most common form of skin cancer, Basal Cell Carcinoma, has cure rates of around 95%. Squamous Cell Carcinoma also has a 95% cure rate and early diagnosis can prevent damage and disfigurement. Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, has a high cure rate if detected and treated early.
